Recently, Governor Pataki directed that sex offenders about to be released from State prisons be held for additional time until the inmate's threat to society could be determined. This was done because the legislature in Albany had failed to act in this matter.
Probation officials in Westchester County just directed that known sex offenders must attend a special instructional meeting on the evening of October 31 (Halloween) to make certain that these offenders were off the streets and not in proximity to children on this traditional, fun event for kids.
Bill O'Reilly has been at the forefront of increasing the sentences for convicted sex offenders. The lack of tough sentencing around the country became especially evident during the horrific abduction and murder of Jessica Lunsford. O'Reilly has been campaigning for mandatory 25 year sentences for these crimes and has been urging every state Attorney General and Governor to endorse such legislation.
