Town Board Passes Reclamation-Asphalt Plant Resolution

On November 1 the Town Board met to consider a resolution which would reaffirm their commitment to the Reclamation project as well as seek termination of the asphalt plant operation at the Reclamation site.

The intent of the resolution was to enforce the contract with Grimes, assist him in obtaining off site permits for asphalt production and/or sand relocation, and affirm a commitment to obtain suitable permits for on-site use of reclaimed soils as fill material. In addition the resolution would state an intention to rezone the Reclamation site to APZ by selling the development rights for recreation or tree farm use.

The resolution passed.

It must be noted that the asphalt plant will not be shutdown until "the paving season is over". The assumption here is that only severe temperatures or ice and snow will stop paving operations. Secondly, securing the off-site and on-site permits in a timely manner, as discussed above, will depend on how quickly the DEC is willing to cooperate in this matter.

The probability that the asphalt plant will be shutdown before the winter is out is questionable. We urge all residents to continue their opposition to the plant and report all smoke and foul odors that plague their quality of life.

Thanks to Tim Gannon of the News-Review for passing along some details in this report.
