This just in.......the Town has just completed rezoning of a large parcel of land at EPCAL. The acreage is located on either side of the main runway (10,000 ft) and, in the Town's opinion, opens the potential for expansion of the industrial park concept. Board member Ed Densieski has been asked to look into rules for the use of the runway which is likely to be restricted.
Town Board Meeting - An Education
The Town Board meeting of June 6th had a bit of everything. The meeting was packed with some very irate residents who came to voice their objections to a change in local law which would place severe restrictions on parking overweight vehicles, boats, boat trailers and travel homes or campers on the driveways or front yard lawns of homes in Riverhead.
It is important to note the huge impact made on the Board by these residents. Every seat was taken and there was standing room only. This resolution will be reconsidered by the Board and the Town attorney's office or perhaps tabled for a future date. It simply underlined the need for everone to standup and be counted when it comes time to present our case regarding the cul-de-sac or any issue.
There were also some 58 resolutions voted on, in addition to 7 public hearings.
Curiously, the final resolution was for the issuance of a bond to support construction of a roundabout (another word for traffic circle) at the intersection of Middle Road, Osborn and Horton at a cost of $545,000. Couldn't this have been done with a traffic light?
School Budget Re-Vote on June 20
There are many, many questions regarding the Riverhead school budget and it sounds like they will remain unanswered for the most part. There are issues about revoting the reserve fund (whether that can be done legally), questions about hiring two new assistant principals (replacing some functions of department heads and just how much the budget increase really is. Another pre-budget hearing scheduled for June 14.
