Library Budget Passes Easily
Voters have approved the $2.5 million Riverhead Library budget with 127 for the proposition and just 46 against. This absolutely minimal vote is hardly a mandate for the expenditure but nevertheless gives the Library approval to move ahead on some key projects. In addition, the budget for the Baiting Hollow Library budget was also approved.
It is becoming increasingly apparent that the Riverhead residents are becoming apathetic about Town spending. Recent voting trends by Riverhead townfolk indicates a lack of interest in how the Town spends their tax dollars. The recent vote on the $14.7 million dollar firehouse bond issue (393 votes), the just completed Library budget (127 votes) and the future school budget vote (on May 15) suggest a potential increase of $300-$500 for every homeowner.
Gas Prices Spiral Upward
Why is it that while oil prices are going down - GASOLINE PRICES CONTINUE UPWARD?
Oil by the barrel has dropped to around $63 while gasoline is topping $2.99.9 in the Riverhead vicinity. In fact some stations are asking $3.01 per gal.
Not a word out of our Congressman or Senators either.. What does it take for Bishop, Clinton or Schumer to at least raise the question about releasing the oil reserves? For that matter, what about the White House.....................never mind! Don't expect anything to change until you send letters, e-mails or hold your vote!
Go Hokies!
