Toy safety is a major concern this year. If you need some help on this score just check into the web site http://healthytoys.org/. You will find recalls, chemical problems (lead) or other safety items. You can check out a toy by brand name or toy name.
One note of caution. The site gets a lot of traffic and may be quite slow. Try off peak hours. Early morning or late night may be best. A thank you is due the guys who came up with this.
Charter School May Lose Charter
The Riverhead Charter School on Rte 25 in Calverton may be required to shut down by July 2008 when its charter is up for renewal. State education authorities have announced that the school has not achieved NY State educational standards. School administrators will argue for renewal and the NY State Charter Association will back them. They feel that they have reached a greater level of achievement than some of the local Riverhead schools.
It is always sad when a school is closed for any reason and we hope they will get their renewal next year.
December 7, 2007
Friday will commemorate the infamous attack on Pearl Harbor. A group of Long Island pilots will do a flyover of the New York harbor and the Statue of Liberty. We will never forget December 7, 1941 and the brave Americans who perished on that day.
Property Tax Increase 6.2%
The Town Board has approved a budget that will increase property taxes by 6.2% or approximately $117 per average household. The Board approved the budget on a 3-1 vote with the Supervisor voting against and Densieski abstaining. The Supervisor had approved a budget which would have resulted in a 2.6% tax increase but Board members added budget items which escalated the numbers.
......and don't forget the packages for our men and women in the Service. Look at the previous posting for a great idea.
