FERC Approves Broadwater
Last week on March 20, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission approved the construction of Broadwater in the Long Island Sound. Broadwater, is of course, the proposed 1200 foot long LNG (gas terminal) to be built 9 miles off shore from Wading River. While there are still many environmental obstacles to overcome before final approval, it now falls to NY State Governor David Paterson to lend his approval before Broadwater has a green light to proceed.
Charter School Seeks Renewal
Officials of the Riverhead Charter School on route 25 presented a new proposal to the Riverhead School Board in an effort to gain approval for a renewal of the charter school certificate. It is expected that the school's charter will be renewed.
New Cutchogue Firehouse Voted Down
The proposed $7.28 million dollar bond issue for the construction of a new firehouse in Cutchogue has been voted down overwhelmingly by residents 1099 - 137. The bond issue, if it had been approved, would have meant an increase in fire tax from $468 to $608 for each homeowner. Similar proposals in Lindenhurst and Setauket have been voted down recently.
