NY Senate Passes Tax Cap
The New York State Senate passed the tax cap bill favored by the Governor. Dean Skelos (R) Nassau, announced that the bill which caps school tax increases at 4% was strongly favored by Gov. Paterson and 75% of the public. Despite the strong support, Assembly leader, Sheldon Silver opposes the measure and will work to kill the bill. Don't let Silver destroy this bill!

Is Riverhead Part of East End Drug Enforcement?
Supervisor Cardinale wanted to assure everyone that Riverhead is a part of the East End Drug Task Force although the Town does not have any officers assigned to the Task Force at the moment.

Helicopter Resolution - a Public Hearing
Legislator Ed Romaine wishes to remind everyone that he will present a resolution at the County Legislature meeting on August 19 at the Riverhead Culinary Institute. The resolution will mandate an altitude ceiling of 2500' for helicopters overflying Suffolk County.

Budget Short Fall Cause for Concern
Riverhead has a projected shortfall of about 1.5 million dollars as a result of reduced revenues from weak real estate sales. Cardinale tried to give assurance that current reserves as well as recent deposits from EPCAL ventures will be enough to cover the deficit.
