The Greater Calverton Civic Association meeting was called to order at 7 pm on Wednesday evening (9/10) and after required formalities quickly erupted into some loud talk.
A number of local residents had shown up that evening to discuss their complaints regarding a property owner who has been flying into and landing a helicopter on a parcel of land on Deep Hole Road. A Supreme Court injunction now prohibits landings on either side of Deep Hole but the operator continues to fly over, descend without landing and then departs in the same manner.
The helicopter owner/operator also attended the meeting and was quickly the focus of the complaints by a number of residents who feel strongly about the continued operation of the aircraft in this manner.

Social Services Wants Bigger Trailer
Despite the controversy over the positioning of a trailer at the Suffolk County Jail to house sex offenders, the County Social Services Department wants to replace that trailer with an even larger one. Meanwhile Legislator Romaine continues to maintain his position that the trailer is illegal because it is too close to a park.
S.T.O.P Day September 27
The Town will conduct a Stop Pollutants Day on September 27 at the Highway Department yard on Osborn Ave just north of the ambulance garage. Great way to get rid of that used oil, old paint, solvents, chemicals, gasoline pool chemicals and many other products that you don't know what to do with. Hours are from 8 am to 3 pm Sept 27 (Saturday).
Exxon Changes to Gulf.
The Exxon station on the corner of Osborn and Rte 58 is being renovated and changed to a Gulf franchise. Meanwhile the Hess station at Ostrander and Rte 58 is shut down for complete renovations as well.
