Business Alliance Sponsors Debate

The Riverhead Business Alliance is sponsoring a Candidate Debate evening at the Vail Levitt Music Hall (Peconic Ave just south of Main St) on Monday evening between 7:00 pm and 9:30 pm. Doors open at 6:30 pm. No charge to attend. The Alliance has invited local candidates for Town positions to debate.


Kabot Will Not Oppose Shinnecocks

Southampton Town Supervisor Linda Kabot has once again endorsed the establishment of a gambling casino by the Shinnecock Nation on Long Island but would object to its placement within Southampton. (The Shinnecocks still await tribal recognition by the BLM). (Meanwhile Kabot's hearing on a DWI charge has been moved to the Riverhead Town Justice Court.)


Paterson Wants 5 Billion Cut In Spending

New York State is facing a 4 billion dollar deficit. Revenues have been reduced sharply and the Governor is now looking for ways to cut spending by more than 5 billion dollars. Cuts will include benefits, Medicaid and other entitlement programs.


School Board to Present $123 million Dollar Plan.

The Riverhead Board of Education will present a plan for the construction of new classrooms for the Middle School grades and the relocation of school administrative staff from mobile buildings on Osborn to permanent, renovated offices in the Roanoke school building. The cost is expected to be approximately 123 million dollars which would be funded by a bond issue. Voting on the bond. A public discussion and review of the plan will be held on October 27th and a referendum vote sometime in early 2010.
