When the Town Board made a decision to use $4 million dollars of the Town's reserve fund to offset a potential huge increase in taxes there was a great sigh of relief heard across the Township.
The Riverhead community was not ready for an outrageous tax increase (of possibly 18%) and needed to know that there was some relief in sight. Now $4 million from the fund takes a big chunk from the rainy day deposit but it will be up to the new Supervisor and Board to contain the spending and hopefully find new revenues at EPCAL.
A budget of under 4% (3.96) is a lot better than a double digit plan and we will support Sean Walter and his team. Lets see where they take us.
School Budget at 2.3%
A good number for the District especially since the Guv has stated that we should expect a large cut in state aid. The district superintendent says that they will be able to work around the expected 5% decrease in state funding. Of course the school district is not through! They still have that $123 million bond issue on the table (for expansion, new classrooms etc) and will drop the other shoe with a referendum early next year.
Crimes and Misdemeanors in the Capitol.
When Harry Reid (D-NV) writes a special amendment into the health care bill to give Louisiana an extra $300 million dollars (your dollars) just to be assured of the YES vote from Mary Landrieu (D-La), that is called bribery in most parts of the world. Possible exception: Washington DC.
