The Candidates are.......

Newsday has a good summary of each elected position and the candidates who are running for every office.  Click on "View All" to see the complete list and then on each candidate's name to read their bios.
The candidate slate for Governor is a little strange with quite a number of people running for the job.  While only two (Paladino and Cuomo) have a real chance at being elected the others are odd distractions.  Remember, however, that each of these candidates had to meet strict eligibilty requirements including thousands of signatures in order to get this far in the process.

Nassau Fires The Assessor
Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano has fired Nassau Assessor Ted Jankowski.

Shinnecocks Still Looking
The Shinnecock Tribe is still searching out sites for the possible construction of a casino.  Many locations are under consideration including privately owned properties.

Fire Marshall Layoff Protest
Firefighters in uniform showed up at Town Hall this week to object to the proposed layoff of one fire marshall in accordance with the Supervisor's 2011 Budget. 
This was but one layoff as proposed by Sean Walter.  Walter had proposed a total of 6 layoffs of permanent employees and 7 temporaries.  Several of the non-fire department employees also spoke in an effort to change the Supervisor's mind..
