DeVito: "Lets Step Back"
School Board member Angela DeVito is recommending that the Board rethink  the authority which it gave the Superintendent to sign off on contracts for professional services up to $100,000 without Board approval.  This was an increase from a previous limit of $2,000 for a single contract.  Many Boards on Long Island do not allow any sign off without Board approval.  Wading River school board, for example,  has a limit of $5,000 allowed for sign off by the Superintendent before mandatory approval kicks in.

The liberal sign off allowance came into focus when it was revealed that Joseph Singleton had been signed on by the Superintendent, Nancy Carney, without notification or approval of the Board.

The Board voted 3-1 to table Mrs Devito's recommendation for a review.  WHAT?

Suffolk County Property Taxes - No Increase
The Office of Supervisor Steve Levy announced that there would be no increase in property taxes for Suffolk residents.  Parking fees and fees to use county recreational facilities however, would be on the increase for the coming year.

Altschuler Back in the Lead
Randy Altschuler (R) is now back in the lead in a bid to win  the congressional seat held by Tim Bishop (D) in the First CD.  The lead, as of Monday morning was only about 10 votes while absentee votes continue to be counted.

Losquadro Super Confident
Dan Losquadro (R) has asked incumbent NY State Assemblyman Marc Alessi (D) to concede defeat.  Counting continues but Losquadro feels that he now has an insurmountable lead with only a few votes left to count.

Hang in There
