Republican Legislators Vote to Raise Taxes
Despite the Republican Party of Suffolk campaigning on a promise to not raise taxes, 4 out of 6 Republican legislators, meeting on the day after the election (Wednesday November 9) voted to raise taxes.  The Republican legislators who voted in favor of the increase included Ed Romaine, Tom Muratore, John Kennedy (Minority leader) and Lynne Nowick.  Read Frank Seabrook's Liberty Report on this!

Riverhead School Board to Sell Property
Members of the Riverhead School Board meeting at their regular weekly session agreed, by resolution to consider the sale of 27 acres of property owned by the school system in Aquebogue.  The acreage, on Tuthill Lane, was  acquired by the district in 1965.  It  was originally intended for an elementary school.  Previous attempts  to use the property for a YMCA met with community opposition.

School District Establishes 2011-2012 Levy
The school district tax levy for the 2011-2012 school year will be $86,794 which may be partially offset by funding from the STAR program.  That amount has not been specified.  The tax increase for property owners has not been announced.

Library Tax Levy Also Announced
The 2011-2012 tax levy for the Riverhead Public Library is $3,061,107.  The tax levy for the Baiting Hollow library is $11,600.
