Calverton PO
The Calverton Post Office apparently received more damage than originally thought when it was struck by a vehicle the other day.  The post office building was closed today with postal services being taken care of by personnel in a postal truck parked outside the building. Patrons were buying stamps, mailing boxes as usual. It wasn't clear how patrons with p.o. boxes were being accommodated.

Wading River FD
Residents of the Wading River Fire District voted down a $4.75 million dollar bond issue intended for the construction of a new firehouse.  The new building would have been twice the size of the current firehouse.  Proponents of the bond are concerned that the district continues to spend money on a leaky roof and trying to solve space problems

Heating Oil Tax
The 3.25% tax on heating oil continues to bug the citizens of Suffolk County and many want to know why this unfair tax continues.  While gasoline prices have shown some signs of slowing in recent weeks, heating oil  continues to be priced above $4.00 a gallon and residents are getting hit hard by this additional tax.

FD Commissioner
All incumbent fire commissioners were reelected to their posts in fire district elections held on Tuesday, 12/12.  Mark Conklin the Riverhead commissioner was reelected with 67 votes for and two write in votes.

A.J. Travis
A citizen speaks out.  A citizen of Baiting Hollow has written a thoughtful piece in the Riverhead News-Review about the proposed cat or animal shelter planned for a farmland location on Youngs Avenue.  A hearing or possible final decision on the shelter is expected at a Zoning Board of Appeals hearing on December 20.  Residents have drawn up petitions against the shelter and intend to present their objections to the board. hoping that a new hearing can be scheduled on this matter.
