Apparently the ban on booing at Town Board meetings met with some serious booing of it's own. The Board has now lifted the ban but has ruled against "disruptive" behavior of any kind. Now this will be a problem for those who like a vocal display of disapproval. Do you whistle as they do in foreign lands? Or bang your shoe on the seat back in front of you (Russian style)? No big signs either. You just can't have a good protest anymore.
Assembly Job Draws Interest
It once appeared that the vacant NY State Assembly seat, abandoned by Dan Losquadro (R) would have no takers. Now there are at least seven interested would be assemblyman some announced and some not. Democrats are showing the most interest including former Riverhead Supervisor Phil Cardinale (D) and current Town Board member George Gabrielsen (R). In addition to a farm operation here on the island Gabrielsen also has a farm in an upstate area not far from Albany. Would make his visits worthwhile.
Gun Control: Too Much Too Soon.
The recently enacted NY State gun control law, rushed into approval by the legislature with a political push by Andrew Cuomo (D) apparently has some technical errors which need correcting asap. Meanwhile a gun advocate group affiliated with the NRA has filed suit to stop the law completely contending that the bill is flawed and unconstitutional.
Animal League is Confusing
The many proposals for moving the Town Animal shelter to EPCAL to occupy a community center building seems to be confusing and vague at best. The Town Board suggests that the League withdraw any interest in a cat shelter and treatment center on Youngs Avenue if it intends to vacate the present shelter and move on.
This Town is in need of steady and decisive leadership.
