Preserve Journal  On the Road at the Branch Davidian

April 13 was the 20th anniversary of the ill fated incident at the Branch Davidian compound at Mount Carmel just east of Waco, Texas.  The siege of the David Koresh encampment by ATF and FBI officers began in February 1993 and ended 51 days later leaving 4 agents dead from gunfire and 80 Koresh followers burned to death in the structure.  Two dozen children died in the blaze.  The building was reduced to a charcoal rubble.  Eleven, who escaped the inferno, were imprisoned for long terms.  Many of the dead were buried in pauper's graves in Waco.

Over the years survivors have tried to honor the dead by planting trees, erecting gates and a marble monument with all the names of the dead carved onto the marble walls.
This is a sad but quiet place with a questionable mark on American history. Visitors are welcome.  We walked through the open gates on a peaceful, sunny, Texas day.
