New Officers at BOE
The Riverhead Board of Education has elected two members to the highest Board positions.  Greg Meyer, current Vice President of the Board has been elected to the position of President and Susan Koukounas has been elected to the position of Vice President.  The nominations and election changes were brought about when School Board President Anne Cotton DeGrasse stepped down from the post as President.

27 Homes Planned Next to Landfill
Property owner Joseph Manzi (subject to verification) has filed an application with the Town to build 27 homes on a 51 acre parcel just west of the now closed and capped landfill.  The plan is to build just 27 homes on 30,000 square foot lots leaving two large parcels open and undeveloped as a trade off for the requirement of two acre zoning.  The two parcels would remain wooded.

There is some concern as to whether landfill seepage, methane or other gasses would pose a hazard to the home owners in the new development and of course there is the question of whether new home owners would like to live next to a landfill or across from a recycling plant. Good luck on that score.  Charles Cuddy is the attorney representing the property owner.  The new development, if approved, would be called Old Orchard at Baiting Hollow.
