Exploring the Casino Option at EPCAL

The Riverhead Town Board is in the early stages of considering a casino operation at EPCAL (the Grumman Calverton site). The proposal would include hotel and casino establishments controlled and operated by the Shinnecock Indian Tribe which recently received recognition as a nation by a Federal Court. The recent election of John Dunleavy to the Board increased the number of board members who now show interest in the proposal and would listen to a proposal by representatives of the tribe.

There is much history about indian sponsored casino operations and there are pros and cons about their benefits to local communities. Local areas surrounding Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods in Connecticut certainly have received some monetary and employment benefits but also have placed severe and costly burdens on the infrastructure.

Its a good idea to stay informed about this proposal no matter how early. Take a few minutes out to read the News Review article on the subject. http://www2.timesreview.com/NR.php
