County Executive Replies to Letter Re: The Asphalt Plant

Thanks to Mike Cuevas, the County Executive Steve Levy became aware of our plight with the Town and the asphalt plant. Now while Levy did not provide any direct intervention, he did acknowledge receipt of the problem and forwarded it to our Town Supervisor Cardinale, the Regional Head of the NY DEC, and Dr. Harper who is the Commissioner of Suffolk County Health Services. He promised to advise of any followup that he receives in response to his forwardings.

Keep Romaine Informed

Ed Romaine, is of course, the new representaive in the Suffolk County Legislature for our district. I have forwarded him an e-mail expressing our concerns with the asphalt plant and especially that it may reopen if there is a court challenge to it's closing. I also included our objections to the Crown Sanitation operation. I see no harm in keeping our government officials informed of our problems and suggest that everyone send out a little note or two to show that we haven't gone away.

Sears Closing

Now, first off, I know nothing about retail store operations but I don't see why Sears doesn't take over the KMart store and turn that into the kind of Sears that we need. The Sears store on main street is reminiscent of an old time, small town retail outlet crammed full of merchandise and actually kind of pleasant in a way. Not a lot of walking around to do but of course it doesn't have all those different departments like the one in Smithhaven. They could easily include an automotive facility at the Kmart site. (I haven't found a good auto repair place since we move out here). So another store closing, 30 jobs lost....... What do we know?
