More Info on Annexation Please

Are you having the same trouble in getting a handle on the proposed annexation of the Little Flower School District as I am. Now if this proposal is all about rescuing Little Flower before it goes out of business, I'm all for that. Too many local schools have had to shut down despite providing a good education. But - most of us know so little about the Little Flower School District that we are unable to make an educated judgment as to that quality. The Riverhead Central School District pitch, however, is a financial one and suggests that State aid to the Riverhead CSD will be measurably increased as a result of the annexation. Riverhead CSD states that State building and operating aid will increase from 29.6% to almost 60%. That's a major jump and obviously we need more information about the proposal which, as I understand it, will be forthcoming.

F1 Go-Cart Racing Gets a PR Firm.

It was obvious from the February 6th meeting of the Calverton Civic Association that F1 Go-Cart was taking a lot of heat especially from land and business owners nearby the proposed raceway. In addition to the environmental testing firm hired to measure noise levels, they have now also engaged a PR firm to tell their story in the best light. I guess I fall into the camp that questions how this proposed raceway benefits the people of this area. I wonder how many communities would entertain having this kind of operation located within their town limits. Not many, I would guess. On the other hand several of the people on hand at the meeting indicated a positive interest by gathering around the display and asking more questions. Stay tuned.
