Downtown Redevelopment Plan Moving Quickly
There are many elements to the proposed Downtown Redevelopment plan, but it has lots of proponents and the Board seems to moving into the next phase of approval. Some areas of the plan need to be ironed out. Having a private company take over waterfront property to accomplish a part of the proposal is not sitting well with some residents. In previous postings we advised you that Apollo RE and Spector were the developers of the project although Ed Densieski had recommended another company.
Another interesting development has a private corporation (Vintage) taking over the just completed parking lot on Railroad Avenue & Osborn and in line to take on another Town property southeast of Railroad Ave. Lots to iron out here before it becomes real.
There are, however, many enthusiastic downtown building owners who are anxious for something positive to happen to the downtown area in order to bolster their investment.
New Development at the Asphalt Plant.
Word now that the huge amount of sand previously scheduled for the asphalt plant has a buyer . That may sound the final bell for the plant and close it down for good. Meanwhile it is important to stay aware of the potential hazard from asphalt production.

Recent "O" (Oprah) magazine article details the high incidence of illness experienced by residents in the Milford Hills neighborhood of Salisbury, North Carolina. The documented incidence of cancers of all types is included in a harrowing report that is both terrifying and worthy of anger. These people have been living nearby an asphalt plant for years and are now suffering the consequences. They have our sympathy and understanding.
New Link Added
We have added a link to familywatchdog.us to our list in the right sidebar. This is an interesting site for locating sex offenders in any area and is gaining momentum across the country. Using the site requires a starting or reference point address and you may find that addresses in the Preserve are too recent to be included in their database. Use an older address on Youngs, Toomey or Osborn to make it work.
