Your Help Needed Urgently
Time is running out on our cul-de-sac and your help is needed asap. If you haven't written a letter to the Planning Board objecting to the cut-through please take a few minutes to dash off a note to each of the 5 Planning Board members. It will take everyone of us to prevent this from happening. Send your letters to one or all of the following:
Richard O'Dea, Chairman
Lyle Wells, Member
Joseph H. Baier, Member
Lou Boschetti, Member
Julia Bowman, Member
address it to Town of Riverhead Planning Board, 200 Howell Ave. Riverhead 11901
(Ed.note: Understand that residents in Manorville were faced with same proposal to cut-through a cul-de-sac into another neighborhood and they were successful in stopping it. Don't give up.)
Grimes & GL Paving Still in the Dark
Grimes, the primary Reclamation project contractor and GL Paving, the asphalt plant operator have still not been instructed to shut down and pack up the asphalt plant. While most authorities feel that the asphalt operation has come to an end, there has been no official announcement. Meanwhile the Town had negotiated a very workable program with a Connecticut plant operator whereby all the remaining sand would have been barged across the Sound. The LIPA waterfront site in Shoreham would have been used as the barge loading point accommodating 40 trucks a day until the job was complete. LIPA backed off the deal when the Wading River Civic Assoc. objected to the trucks. See news article: http://www2.timesreview.com/NR/index/285850507141914.php
Find A Candidate
Many of the battles being fought by The Preserve and by our neighbors in The Manors and other parts of Calverton & Baiting Hollow have been uphill because we don't have an advocate in Town Hall. The current Board members live in other parts of the Town but not in ours. Lets keep an eye out for a worthy candidate for the next Town Board member election and perhaps we can have a voice in Town Hall too.
