Summing Up

Reclamation scale down.........In view of the current review of the cost overrun at the Reclamation Project, the Town has elected to cease all operations with the exception of removing oil contaminated sand. It would appear that this includes the composting function in the Yard Waste area. The machinery has not been in operation and no sign of an attendant for the past several days. Yard waste materials are piling up and you must drive around until you can find a place to offload. These may be day to day decisions and we will continue to watch for changes. (A yard attendant was on duty Monday morning 5/8 but didn't see anyone on the weekend)

State Aid Reduces School Budget Increase..............The State Aid (originally vetoed by Pataki and overridden by the State legislature) amounts to $1.3 million dollars and will reduce the Riverhead School budget increase to between 3.5 and 4.0 %. Without the aid or Pilot, the increase would have been over 6.5 %. Nevertheless not everyone is happy with the $93 million dollar budget or the direction being taken by the current school Board. More information is promised at the next Calverton Civic Association meeting on May 10 at the Riley Avenue School.
Ms. Kathleen Wojciechowski will provide an opposing view regarding the budget, failing grades and the annexation of the Little Flower School District.

Everyone is Talking About the Water District............Major underbilling of large Water District customers reveals a major shortfall in revenues to the tune of about $365,000. The District hopes to recover about two thirds of the lost amount by issuing catch-up billing. Some of the billing errors go back as far as 1999. We certainly hope the District will not look at the rest of the residents to make up the loss.

Yard Sale.......Yard Sale.......Yard Sale........Lisa has asked that friends and neighbors think about having a yard sale this coming summer or early September. You could have a group sale as we did last year or, of course, simply go it alone. Pass along your ideas. Remember, it requires a permit and some advertising - so plan ahead!
