It was slow in coming but there seems to be the beginnings of opposition to the Pulte Homes proposal to purchase 755 acres of land at EPCAL (Calverton/Grumman) to construct some 500 homes, a hotel and convention center and a golf course. Town Board Member Ed Densieski has voiced his opposition believing that the magnitude of home construction is overkill for the site and would not provide a long term financial benefit for the Town. There have been others who have offered a similar appraisal of the idea and given the problems the Town has had with other issues (Reclamation, asphalt plant, downtown projects) everyone should take a step back and review this proposal carefully.
Town Authorizes Air Operations at EPCALOn June 20, at the Town Board meeting, Resolution #629 was passed, authorizing a commercial venture, a tenant at EPCAL to conduct air operations at the Calverton airport utilizing runway 14-32 (the 10,000 ft runway). The authorization restricts the company, South Bay Apparel at 4062-653 Grumman Blvd., Calverton, to conduct air operations in conjunction with it's business activities. The authority was issued for an initial six month period at the rate of $1000 a month. This single resolution does not preclude other tenants at the airport from seeking similar authority.
UNBELIEVABLE
Here's a story thats hard to believe. You've seen the large earth moving dump trucks moving huge loads of sand across Youngs Avenue from the landfill to a large vacant land site just behind the animal control center. Town explains that it is covering up "road kill" found on the roadways with the sand. Now Rex Farr, at the recent Civic Association meeting, stated to the Supervisor that Riverhead euthanizes more animals than any township on the island. Could this site also be the final resting place for these animals? The DEC is supposed to be in charge of the site. Are we to accept the contention that the ground waters will not be contaminated or...Is this a way to remove sand from the reclamation site because no other destination can be found?

Highway Maintenance (What a Joke)
Having called the Highway Department three times and sending an e-mail to the Supervisor and Highway Department Head about the overgrown condition surrounding the sump (recharge basin) on the Preserve is a sure way to get frustrated. Does everything in this Town have to be a confrontation? Don't forget this nonsense at election time!!!!!
