RECLAMATION INVESTIGATION IS PLENTY BORING

Some details of the Reclamation/landfill project investigation by FPM are starting to come out and they are startling to say the least. There were 24 test borings performed by the engineering firm revealing that the garbage layers extended closer to Youngs Avenue than originally thought including under the Lighting Department facility in the northeast corner. The landfill also had wider boundaries to the south as well. Some of the test borings revealed content at 56 feet below the surface. Equipment utilized in the study was available at the time the original survey was done.

The DEC has charged that the Town could have capped the landfill for about half of the original estimate and didn't understand why it took the reclaiming course when it had been warned. The DEC and Town continue to meet to find a suitable solution.

If The Reclamation is Shutdown Why Is Youngs Avenue Such a Dump?

It just seems to me that the conditions on Youngs Avenue since the Reclamation/landfill shutdown have gotten considerably worse. The trucks in and out of Crown are everywhere, clogging the street, backing in, driving out, double parking to secure the tiedowns and not really caring about the public. This is a public road. Or is it? The dirt, filth, sand, dust envelope the entire street from the Yard Waste gate to Osborn. This has been a disgrace to humans since the day we all moved in here and its the Town's dirty little secret. And now of course, Crown runs a porta potty business out of that site. How appropriate!!!!!

Things We Like To Hear.

Southold's Burt's Reliable, a home heating oil supplier announced that it has accepted delivery of a Biofuel heating oil product made from a blend of soybean and standard oil. The Biofuel is represented as clean burning with low emissions. The product is apparently very popular in the Midwest where the agricultural product is more readily available. There was no mention of pricing for the residential consumer. John Romanelli, owner of Burt's, says that home heating equipment requires no upgrade changes or parts. Can Willie Nelson be far behind?

Questions No One Ever Asked Me

What happens to all that yard sale stuff that didn't make the cut?
