The Planning Board agenda for January 4, 2007 did not include the Mastronardi subdivision and the Planning Department had no word on when it would next appear. Planning did confirm, however, that a Public Hearing notice would appear in the newspaper of record, (The Riverhead News-Review) if and when a hearing is scheduled. Meanwhile we are trying to determine the status of the subdivision. Stay tuned!
Pulte Backs off Offer, Proposes New Plan
You may recall that Pulte Homes made an original proposal to the Town for the purchase of some 755 acres at EPCAL and would construct some 464 homes, a hotel, golf course and conference center. The absence of any hotelier interested has prompted the builder to revise the offer, eliminating the hotel and meeting center, reducing the number of acres for purchase (now 700 acres) but increasing the home construction number to 600 and scratching the original 91 million dollar price tag to just 57 million. Supervisor Cardinale, originally a strong proponent of the project, now seems a bit disenchanted. Don't be surprised if this deal is about to fade fast.
Flushing Firm Proposes Cap for Landfill
Tully Construction of Flushing, NY has submitted a proposal to cap the landfill for $15,750, a number that is considerably under several other offers of 20 and 29 million dollars. Tully, currently active in the cleanup of the World Trade Center site, has not asked to tie in any transfer of development rights as did others.
Concern Over MS13 Presence in Town
A recent shooting on Maple Street in the downtown area (just off Main Street) gave strong indication that members of the notorious MS13 gang have taken up residence in Riverhead. Stay alert for any evidence of their presence (MS13, Crips or the Bloods). Many wear the "blue bandanna" symbol of their affiliation. Police and school officials are aware of the threat.
Rose Sanders has been appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals. You may remember that Ms Sanders lost her bid for reelection to the Town Board when she was supplanted by John Dunleavy.
Richard O'Dea has been reappointed as Chairman of the Planning Board
PUBLIC HEARING
A Public Hearing will be held on January 18 at 3 PM for consideration of the F1 (Go-Kart) approval, a facility that is scheduled to be constructed on Edwards Avenue adjacent to the Calverton Links.

Always amazed at how far reaching are the words of the internet. While the Preserve Journal attempts to serve the Baiting Hollow, Calverton and Riverhead New York areas, some of our topics are universal. Thanks for commenting and Aloha.
