Choppers in the Backyard

The Riverhead News-Review is expected to publish an article this week about unwanted noise from helicopters as they transit the Island on their way to landings in the Hamptons. It is anticipated that the reporter will also cite our local annoyance at a helicopter which has been landing on the property just south of The Preserve.

We have recorded somewhere between 8 and 10 such landings and takeoffs and filed complaints with the Town Supervisor and Code Enforcement. We are not aware of what success the Town is having in trying to put a stop to these operations but we believe that the owner/operator is exposing our homes to a dangerous situation. At this point the FAA has not been particularly helpful and the matter may end up in court.

It should be noted that the Town has spent a lot of time drafting and finalizing explicit rules for the operation of aircraft at Calverton but can't seem to rule on a helicopter that lands in our own backyard.
