Tea Parties Forming Around the Country

A national coalition of "tea party" organizations has been rapidly forming around the nation following the lead of Rick Sentelli's call for Americans to join him in protesting the Stimulus Bill. Calling itself "The New American Tea Party" in recognition of the historic Boston Tea Party (which protested the increased burden of taxes imposed by the British), chapters have been formed in 8 cities with protests planned in 27 cities at last count. Romaine Sees Light Rail
Legislator Ed Romaine is recommending that the LIRR study the use of light rail service on the North and South Forks to reduce cost of operations and improve service on the East End.

Riverhead Wants to Swap.
Riverhead Community Development is now seeking to swap land with the Riverhead Fire District. The Town has it's sights on the vacant property on Ostrander hoping to construct affordable housing or perhaps workforce housing.

Cross Endorsements Unfair to Voters?
The recent cross endorsements by the Suffolk Conservative Party for the positions of sheriff, treasurer and district attorney would eliminate the usual election process of new candidates seeking office through application and petition. That method would almost certainly assure the election of the cross endorsed candidates. NY State is not a signatory to the Wilson-Pikula act which would prohibit the practice.
