We Surround Them Meetings Huge Success
The We Surround Them meetings inspired by Glenn Beck drew large crowds across the country. Hundreds of people met in bars, meetings rooms and even outdoors to listen and watch Beck's Friday night program on Fox News.
Enthusiastic reports have come in from Amarillo, Grand Junction, Cheyenne, Melbourne (Fl), Titusville, Salt Lake City, Asheville, Manhattan and Riverhead too. There were many other meetings and the reports are still coming in.

Senator Proposes Credit Card Cap

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders will propose a mandatory cap on credit card interest rates of 15%. Currently card holders are being charged anywhere from 20 to 25% and even up to 28%. Sanders says that the credit unions have long held their own credit cards at 15% and many charge even less (and they do so while still making a profit for their credit union members). He knows that trying to get the card cap through congress will be tough going. The banks are certain to complain loudly but considering the enormous credit debt now carried by most families, such a proposal may have better results than 2 or 3 stimulus packages.
Banks who borrow from the government are being charged ZERO interest.

School Budget Will Be Announced Soon

The Riverhead School Board has given indication that it is anticipating a school budget increase of around 4%. Given the current status of the economy, the poor job picture and the property tax bill this increase may be the proverbial straw. We hope they would rethink this or perhaps sharpen the pencil.

Congress Throws Wash DC Students Under The Bus

Lets face it. The public schools in DC are not very good and for several years now some students have been able to enroll in better quality schools through the school voucher system. Congress controls the funding for the administration of the city and the DC schools. Last week, bending to outside pressure, congress voted to eliminate the voucher system for the District. This will force students back to the public schools unless they can come up with some private financing. Politics as usual.

Some Lining Up For Supervisor Run

There are now 3 active candidates who are seeking to run for Town Supervisor as Republicans. Jim Wooten, currently a Town Councilman, Jodi Giglio, who heads up the Riverhead Business Alliance and Sean Walter, former chair of the Conservative Party have all been screened by the Republican Party.

Supervisor Cardinale has not yet decided whether he will run.
