Meet The Candidates Night 10/19
Republican candidates Sean Walter, John Dunleavy and Jodi Giglio appeared at the candidates meeting sponsored by the Riverhead Business Alliance. The Democrats who appeared supported the concept of eminent domain for the Town of Riverhead and actually endorsed the idea of taking properties away from private owners on Main Street and turning them over to developers (also private) for renovation and sale or rent (profit)
Eminent domain grabs by local governments have been happening across the country and we are all well aware of the New London case which was upheld by the Supreme Court. This deplorable decision calls for a return look at how those properties have improved the city of New London. The decision has improved NOTHING! The properties taken from honest citizens has not resulted in a single improvement and legal fees and untold stress put upon honest Americans is disgraceful.
Sean Walter Won't Take Stimulus Money
Candidate for Supervisor, Sean Walter has stated that he would not take the stimulus money if offered from the Federal Government. He feels strongly that Americans should not be taking money from the Chinese (where much of these funds come from) and stands on his Conservative principles in this matter.
B.O.E. To Present Bond Program
The Riverhead Central School District Board of Education will present a plan for the construction of additional classrooms, improving parking areas and moving administrators to a renovated Roanoke school building. The open hearing will be held on Tuesday October 27. The Board's plan calls for the spending of $123 million dollars and would be funded by a bond issue. A public referendum will decide the issue early in 2010.
(The Board's proposal comes at a time when Albany is about to make huge cuts in aid to education. Talk about bad timing.)
