LIRR to Cut Service
The Long Island Railroad is proposing to eliminate service on the North Fork line east of Ronkonkoma except for the summer months. Legislator Ed Romaine will lead a protest on Monday, 1/25 at the Riverhead Railroad Station hoping to scuttle the plan.  Marc Alessi, State Assemblyman, is also expected to join with Romaine at the station.



Sean Walter Wants Money Returned.
Riverhead Supervisor Sean Walter is seeking to recover monies from the State for the cost of sidewalk construction on Main Street, taking the position that Main Street is a State roadway and that Albany should be footing the bill.



Board of Ed Meeting Tuesday
Tuesday, 1/26 is the regularly scheduled meeting for the Riverhead School District Board of Education.  It is very likely that the subject of the $123 million construction referendum will be a major topic of discussion.  The referendum vote will take place on February 9 at the High School gym from 6 am to 9 pm.


Suffolk Wins Intl Hockey Tournament
The All Star Hockey Team from various rinks in Suffolk County won the Lighthouse International Hockey Tournament held at the Nassau Coliseum on Thursday, Friday and Saturday last week.  The team beat the best from Finland, Japan, China ( 2 teams), Nassau and Westchester to gain the finals on Saturday.  The teams were introduced to the hockey fans who attended the Islander-NJ Devils hockey game on Saturday night and participated in the ceremonial face-off at the start of the pro game.
