Town Board OKs Bond Issue
The Riverhead Town Board at its regular meeting on Jan 20, authorized the issuance of a $1,580,000 bond to cover improvements to the Riverhead Water District.

Board Wants New Law for Sex Offenders
The Town Board has issued a new Chapter 111 to the Registered Sex Offenders law which specifies residence restrictions, specifically the proximity allowed to beaches, parks, schools, day care centers or similar facilities.  The Board will hold a public hearing on the new chapter on February 17 at 7:05 pm.

Part Time Deputy Attorneys hired by the Board are James Saladino and former Supervisor Robert Kozakiewicz.  Each recieve $44,000 per annum.

Lazio Rips Cuomo
Rick Lazio (R-Brightwaters) criticized his Democrat opponent for Governor for not speaking out on the issues.  Lazio, a former congressman and senate candidate who opposed Hillary Clinton, has been given the nod by 22 state-wide Republican leaders.  Gov. Paterson says he still intends to run and County Exec Steve Levy is considering a run as an independent.

School Bond Referendum on Schedule.
The Riverhead School District referendum for the $123 million dollar bond issue will be held on February 9, Tuesday, between 6 am and 9 pm at the high school gym.  Don't forget to be there. 

Obama Budget $3.8 Trillion Dollars.
Sen Judd Gregg (R-NH) says it is a disaster and will destroy the economy of the country.  Will include over $1.1 trillion dollars in tax hikes.  Lets Bush tax relief program expire.  Long Island will be hit hard.  This is unsustainable.

Virginia Rejects Federal Healthcare Mandate.
 The State legislature of Virginia has passed a law stating that it will not conform to any Federal law that mandates that it's citizens must buy healthcare insurance.  10th Amendment and state's rights advocates agree. Stay tuned.

Tax Tip
If you plan on making a charitable donation and you own appreciated stock, consider donating stock rather than giving cash.  You will get a deduction for the fair market value of the stock but won't have to pay tax on the capital gains from the sale. (from Rosedale Scerbo, CPAs)
