Huge Health Care Cut In NY
Gov Paterson has announced a huge cut in health care spending in New York State according to extracts from the coming budget. Paterson calculates over 775 million dollar cuts in medical spending which is of deep concern to hospitals, home care, clinics and so much more.
Casino Plans
The Suffolk Gaming panel has been reviewing various proposals for a gambling casino for Long Island. Two recent proposals include making a large parcel in EPCAL available for the Shinnecock Nation as well as consideration for a 95 acre parcel in Bellport near Sunrise Highway.
Voucher System Dead
The proposed voucher system which would have been used to house sex offenders throughout the Island was voted down by the Suffolk County legislature. Meanwhil;e the courts have rejected plans to place additional trailers on the Riverside site to house more offenders.
Recession Still Here
Ed Romaine has stated that the recession of the recent one or two years is still strong on Long Island. The foreclosure rate in housing remains high and the welfare rolls are on a steady rise.
Pension Costs to Soar.
Pension costs throughout the state are expected to increase rapidly over the next year and may even be unsustainable. Diane Scricca, retiring Riverhead School Superintendent predicts a huge rise in teacher pension costs for the district in the coming year.
