In a 6-0 vote on Tuesday the school board unanimously selected Sam Schneider and appointed him as the the new Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Finance. He was given a three year contract starting July 1, 2011. Schneider is currently employed by the Shelter Island School System.
$78.4 Million Dollar Bond Issue Presented.
The long awaited bond issue was prepared and finally presented to the public. Originally announced at $80 million dollars, then pared down to $75 million is now coming in at $78.4 million and involves renovations and classroom construction in all schools in the district except Phillips Avenue Elementary. There is no word as to when the bond will be offered to the public for voting.
Suffolk Republicans: No Pick Yet
The Suffolk County Republican Party has yet to officially select a candidate to run for the County Executive job. Randy Altschuler had expressed great interest in taking on the campaign which would have meant that Angie Carpenter and Rick Lazio would have to step aside.
Altschuler had originally planned a return run at the Tim Bishop congressional seat. Switching now to a run for County Exec would leave the congressional seat up in the air.
