Sears Closing K-Mart Stores
Sears announced this week that it would close up to 120 K-Mart stores across the country.  There is no word whether the closings will involve the Riverhead store.  The closings come as a result of disappointing holiday sales figures for both K-Mart and Sears which were below the national average.


Taxi Anybody? It'll Cost You
The Riverhead Town Board announced a new schedule of taxi operator fees this week including $500 to have a hack license in the Town as well as operator's fees, drivers fees, drug testing and background checks.


Bellone Names Adviser
Newly elected County Executive Steve Bellone (D) has named District Court Judge Dennis Cohen as his Chief Legal Adviser.  Cohen will leave the bench to take on the County position.


Happy New Year in Middle Island
A lucky ticket for the Mega Million lottery drawing worth $206 million dollars was sold at the King Kullen supermarket in Middle Island.  Someone is going to have a very happy new year.


Sean Not Pleased
Town Supervisor Sean Walter has given a shout out to the Riverhead Neighborhood Preservation Coalition accusing them of having a special interest regarding planning in Wading River.
