Gov. Andrew Cuomo is proposing an increase in school aid to the Town of Riverhead for the coming year. The amount of aid is expected to be 16% of the school budget or $17.6 million dollars. The proposal is subject, of course, to assembly approval.

Wind Turbine a Goner
It seems that the wind turbine proposal for installation at the sewer treatment plant may be gone with the wind. New analysis of the cost recovery now predicts that the cost (even with the $470 thousand dollar grant) to install and maintain the turbine won't be recovered for many more years than originally estimated making the project less attractive and will probably be shelved.
Weeping Willow Moves Ahead
The Supervisor has signed an executive extension which makes an agreement with NY State Parks and Recreation to share the cost of demolition, renovate and reestablish the Weeping Willow Motel site as a recreation area with parking, boat launches etc. The state's share: $500,000.
Crown Victorias Wanted
The Town is seeking to replace police vehicles which have been damaged beyond repair with new but hard to get Ford Crown Victorias. The Crown Victoria, now out of production, is seen as an excellent police cruiser and some 2011 production models are being sought.

Leroy Barnes has been appointed to the Zoning Board of Appeals.
Planning
Richard O'Dea has been reappointed to the Planning Board and subsequently renamed to the Chairmanship..
