The proposed animal shelter (masquerading as a spay and neutering center) has caused much concern and anger on the part of residents who live in The Preserve subdivision as well on adjoining streets in the area.
Residents of the Preserve are outraged at the Zoning Board of Appeals decision to close hearings on the matter and indications are that they will probably render a decision at their next meeting on December 20.
Meanwhile Preserve residents have spoken before the Town Board seeking some help in having the Town understand their plight and hopefully getting the Board to exert some influence on the ZBA. Indeed, after several residents managed to say a few words to the Board, Supervisor Sean Walter indicated that he would try to get the ZBA to reopen the hearings. This is not definite of course.
There are some 25 families who live in The Preserve representing a tax roll in excess of a quarter million dollars. Hopefully, this will not be lost on Board members. There is a special election for County legislator in January to fill the vacancy left with Ed Romaine's departure to the Brookhaven Supervisor position and in the event that Sean Walter is elected to the legislative seat, we can also expect a special election for the Town Supervisor position. Surely, given that political climate, all parties will consider coming to the aid of these distressed families.
County Likes Water Park Idea
Lets see. The County thinks it is a good idea for the proposed water park in EPCAL to feature machines which would tow people around a man-made lake which does not yet exist. That should make the town a lot of money!!! Could we stop with the wacky ideas? Oh yes, the Town now wants to hire yet another person (at $7,000 a month) to consult on ideas for EPCAL. Please turn EPCAL over to an authority which would operate without political ties and with a mission to attract only the most sensible, reasonable, intelligent projects.
