URGENT-Zoning Board Meeting This Week!!

The Riverhead Zoning Board of Appeals will meet this week on Thursday evening, 7 PM Town Hall.It is imperative that any and all homeowners of the Preserve or surrounding neighborhoods attend this meeting.

It was expected that the ZBA would meet to announce a decision regarding a zoning variance which would allow the locating of a cat neutering and treatment center on an agriculturally zoned parcel at 165 Youngs Avenue.

The residents of this neighborhood, having since learned of the Board's intentions, have rallied to mount a strong objection to the proceedings.  The protesters firmly believe that: 1. the proposed feline center does not belong adjacent to residential properties and that 2. the wording of the zoning variance opens the possibility of more than just a shelter or treatment center for cats and 3. the notice of variance was improperly served .  Concerned for your neighborhood and your property value?  BE THERE!

Shelter Talks
Regardless of the pending variance applications (see above) negotiations between the Town and the North Fork Animal Welfare League regarding the Leagues takeover of the existing shelter at the eastern end of Youngs continues and is expected to result in some kind of an agreement.

Police and Schools Talk Security
The Riverhead Chief of Police and the Superintendent of Schools are in serious discussion regarding the status of school security highlighted of course by the tragic events in Newtown Connecticut.  Every school district on the island is going through similar review and tightening of security standards.

Calverton P.O.
The postal service truck parked outside the post office in Calverton continues to serve the public with postage, packages, mailing etc until such time that the structural integrity of the building can be cleared.

Maysonet a Close Second
Star running back Miguel Maysonet of Stony Brook University and formerly Riverhead High was thought to be in the running for the annual Walter Payton award but just missed and came in second.
