Short Takes
Obamacare Unravelling
Unofficial reports this week (WSJ) are that fewer than 50,000 Americans have enrolled in the Federal Health Care Plan (ACA). The government was anticipating over 500,000 sign ups for the first month with hopes to reach the enrollment objective of $7 million signatures by next June.
Meanwhile the "if you like your health care plan you can keep it" mantra has a new advocate. Former President Bill Clinton agreed that the government should actually keep that promise which would mean that the 5 million people whose policies have been cancelled would have their plans reinstated by their insurance carriers. The procedures for reverting the policies are almost impossible if not improbable.
One writer has predicted that the Affordable Health Care Act would be repealed before the end of 2014.
It is near impossible to predict where this is all going and how it will be finalized but the law has thrown the health care system and all Americans into a confused state of mind in this regard.
Isn't it time for the Republican Party to announce the framework of a health care vision which would be formulated and endorsed by prominent members of the medical profession? Time for the physicians, hospitals and insurers to step up and be heard before we have a calamity on our hands.
