Shinnecocks in New Proposal to Riverhead

Tim Gannon of the Riverhead News-Review reported that several members of the Shinnecock nation met with two members of the Town Board this week. No, believe it or not, the subject was not a casino but the construction of an energy generating plant, the idea being a reduction in energy costs to consumers and, of course, a profit to the Shinnecocks. The land required for the energy site would be purchased from the Town.

The surprise here is finding out how little we know about the bills passed in Congress. Apparently there is an Indian Tribal Energy Development and Self-Determination Act of 2005 that is being counted on to provide appropriate support to the proposal. You may recall however, that the Shinnecocks were handed a serious setback when the Department of Interior advised that they were not required to acknowledge a recent court decision which declared the Shinnecocks a tribe. This proposal is not going anywhere unless their status as a recognized tribe is clarified.

Community Development Agency Director's Real Estate License

This story about CDA Director Andrea Lohneiss obtaining a real estate license and having Broker Jack O'Connor hold the license is probably much ado about nothing. She let it lapse and didn't have to. 'nuff said.
