What Will 2006 Bring to The Preserve and Riverhead?

Taxes.....January 10 is the bewitching day by which you would have had to pay one half of your property taxes to the Town of Riverhead. You can't be blamed if you waited until the last day. There is a serious question here as to whether this Town deserves an early payment.

Changes.....What changes? Despite an increase in your tax bill can you honestly pick out something that has changed for the better in this neck of the woods? Lets review.

1. Youngs Avenue is still a muddy pathway out to Osborn. Most of the mud and dirt is coming from the mudhole on the Crown Sanitation property and those 18 wheelers simply dip in with their huge tires and drag it out to the street. Have you noticed that the big trucks are parked out on the avenue again.

2. The asphalt plant appears to have shutdown for the moment but the party isn't over. And when is the Town going to take care of all the potholes around here. Look at Reeves, Mill Road and the list goes on.

3. EPCAL - Are they still talking about that? Are we about to see Wilpon's proposal given CPR? Is there actually some idea that the Shinnecocks can rescue Riverhead?

4. The builders have discovered Riverhead and the subdivision applications (major and minor) are flying like confetti on VJ Day. Do they know something that we don't. So much for the rural life.

5. What exactly is the contract with Waste Management ? Do they guarantee to pick up the garbage sometime in the same week. Well more or less. They're on it.

6. Is anyone going to say anything about the outrageous gasoline prices? The Board, the Supervisor, our Legislator, Congressman, Senator (don't make me laugh or these stitches will come out) the Governor, our State Assemblyman or State Senator? Anybody? I guess not.

Same old, Same old.....
