Board Awards Cap Design Contract The Town Board has awarded a contract for the design of a landfill cap to SCS Engineering of Valley Cottage, NY. The contract is for $255,000. Board Member Densieski opposed the award stating that a lower bid (some $100,000 less) was more appropriate. This will probably end any hope of continuing the reclamation of the landfill.
News-Review: "Investigate the Landfill". In a very frank editorial in this week's newspaper, the Review called for an investigation of the landfill by the D.A. or the State Comptroller. The paper cited too many discrepancies to overlook and it was time to clear the air or find out "who did what". Can't disagree!
Election Season Starts Early. Local radio station WRIV has been playing a paid election spot in which a singer takes issue with 3 Board members and their actions with regard to their associations, taking raises and business dealings. The spot is paid for by School Board member Angela DeVito. The season is starting earlier and earlier.
NY State DEC Not in Favor of Broadwater. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation seriously questions the conclusions of the impact statement provided by the proponents of the floating gas terminal. Cross Sound Cable and Cross Sound Ferry are also asking for a delay pending additional info. No one seems to be able to get the Feds to open the subject for additional public discussion. What gives?
Citizens Concerned About Gangs The recent shootings and muggings in the downtown area have many questioning the quality of public safety. It is apparent that there is a presence of gangs or "wannabes" in the area and Police Chief indicates that the problem is being addressed .
Do Something Nice Today. Last week we told you about a great organization that passed along a request from our own guys in the military stationed in Afghanistan. Their request was simple. They wanted to help the Afghan kids to get started in the local schools but they didn't even have the basics in school supplies. Web site doonenicething.com jumped in and published the request and spelled out the particulars. Like to help? Check their web site.
