Bishop Sees 200 Million for Infrastructure
Congressman Tim Bishop expects NY State to dole out some 200 million dollars to Long Island over the next two years. The money, from the Stimulus Bill, would be used for uncompleted highway projects as well as new planning. Presumably this is part of the 22 billion dollars which Gov. Paterson has requested as New York's share of the giant 787 billion dollar recovery legislation signed into law by Obama in Denver on Tuesday 2/17.
Meanwhile........Gov. Paterson is coming under fire for giving out raises to his staff (as much as 46% increases) while cutting out increases for other State employees. Andrew Cuomo, is now a heavy favorite to unseat Paterson in the next election for the Governor seat. Carolyn McCarthy has also risen to the top of a poll of those who seek to unseat newly appointed Senator Gillibrand. It is too early, but the same poll has Peter King losing to Gillibrand in the 2010 election for the senate seat.
New Hampshire Affirms States Rights
The legislative body of the State of New Hampshire has passed a resolution HRC 6, which "reaffirms state's rights in accordance with Jeffersonian principles". The reaffirmation of state's rights is a growing trend, having been proposed or affirmed by twenty states as an indication of a general dissatisfaction with the encroachment of state's rights on the part of the Federal Government.
