Riverhead Board of Ed to Unveil Plans
The Riverhead Board of Education will present their proposal for a building referendum at the Riverhead High School this evening, October 27 at 8:00 pm.

The plan, reportedly will cost the district around 123 million dollars in the form of a bond issue and will include the construction of new classrooms for the Middle School, renovation of the Roanoke Avenue School to accommodate administrators who will be moved out of mobile facilities and various other projects. The public has been invited and attendance is expected to be heavy.

Town Accepts Downstate Funding
Supervisor Cardinale advises that the Town has received downstate funds from Albany in the amount of $650,000 which it will apply to a rail spur into EPCAL.

Local Election In High Gear
Local elections will be held on November 3 (Tuesday) and the candidates are using all available air time to get out their messages. Local station WRIV (1390 am) broadcasts the vote pleas back to back at every station break.

The Republican Party and their candidates have apparently spared no expense on lawn signs. Placards for Sean Walter, Jodi Giglio and John Dunleavy far outnumber signs for the Cardinale team.

Beware Internet Neutrality
The White House is intent on clamping down on their detractors on the internet. Proposals now in Congress would seriously interfere with free speech as we know it. To his credit, Sen John McCain has voiced his opposition to the new proposals which could shut down those who would dare to object to Government policies.

Dispatchers-Local or County?
Voters are expected to decide on whether they want to retain emergency dispatchers (911 calls) on the Riverhead payroll or let the County perform the function. Dispatcher jobs are at risk of course but there is also a penalty in keeping the dispatchers in the form of taxes to pay for them. Voters will have to decide on November 3.
