ELECTION DAY
TUESDAY
NOVEMBER 3, 2009
DON'T FORGET TO VOTE
The election on Tuesday, November 3rd promises to be a hotly contested race to say the least. The Republican/Conservative team of Sean Walter, John Dunleavy, Jodi Giglio, George Gabrielsen, Joe Densieski and Linda Hulse are up against the incumbent Democratic team headed by Phil Cardinale

.

We all know who they are and know their positions on many issues and it is up to you to decide whether to stay with the current office holders or give the new contenders a try. We all have an opinion. So it is up to you.

There are some State propositions that you must consider, however. One is a trade off of State land for another parcel of State land to provide appropriate access for the electric grid. I personally have no problem with this. Others may.

The second State proposition is to allow prisoners to perform work for charitable organizations. This is extremely suspect and I will vote NO.

The issue regarding whether Emergency dispatchers working for Riverhead should be transferred to County jurisdiction, has not, in my opinion, been adequately explained to the public. How much does it cost to retain the Dispatchers in Riverhead? How much would it cost the taxpayers if the Dispatchers were sent to the County? You don't escape the cost simply because the County is handling the function. Each County resident will still pay a share of the Dispatcher cost. (Newsday stated that if the County ran the function it would be Free!) Not so fast. One legislator stated that all of the Towns share the cost of the Dispatcher function.

One argument is: "Retain the Dispatchers (jobs) for Riverhead"
Other argument: "Save the cost. Transfer the function to County". You decide.
