Meanwhile-Fire at West Babylon Elementary School has been blamed on combustible materials left in the school by a contractor.
Fire at Riverhead Charter School
A fire severely damaged the main classroom building of the Riverhead Charter School on late Tuesday afternoon. Late working teachers smelled the smoke but were not aware of the origin.
Classes for Wednesday have been canceled.    No word as yet on future class schedules.
Sean Walter Says Town Has $3.5 Million Dollar Shortfall
The Town Budget Director is expected to make a presentation on the upcoming budget on Thursday afternoon at Town Hall.  He says that the shortfall goes back some 8 years.
Home Energy Tax Dispute
Jay Scheiderman (Legislator 2nd Legislative District) and Ed Romaine (Legislator 1st Legislative District) agree that something must be done about the Suffolk County Home Energy Tax. Romaine wants it eliminated or at least put on a ballot for the people to decide and Schneiderman wants to reduce the tax by 1 1/2%. The County says that property taxes would rise if the Energy tax is eliminated.

Riverhead Board of Education Extends Contracts.
The Board of Education, in their regular meeting on Tuesday evening, extended the teachers union contract for another two years.
In another move, the Board also extended the contract of Superintendent Dr. Diane Scricca for one year.
