Riverhead Budget Gap 5.2 Million
In a meeting on Thursday afternoon, the Riverhead Budget Director presented the bad news to the Board. Seems like the Town is facing a 5.2 million dollar gap in the budget for this year and is likely to grow to 7.3 million for the year 2011.
A plan was presented to the Board for an immediate closing of the gap by raising taxes to over 26% or work on a graduated plan over the next two or three years.
Meanwhile..There May be Some Hope
The Board is hoping to strike some kind of deal with Riverhead Resorts which would provide some some monies to reduce the projected tax burden this year and in future years. No conclusion as yet.
IRS Needs a Building
Ed Romaine is hoping that the IRS will consider purchasing the old Woolworth Building on Main Street. Internal Revenue is looking at other properties so don't hold your breath on this one.
The Riverhead Charter School which was severely damaged in a fire this week, will reopen on Monday.
