Twelve teachers and 9 assistants have been given notice that their services would be terminated starting with the 2012 fall semester. This is an attempt by the School District to stay under the New York State mandated 2% cap restriction.
School District Considers Elevator
The Riverhead School Board is considering the installation of an elevator in the Middle School in order to comply with the Disabilities Act. That install would cost the District approximately $1.3 million dollars and would come from the $10 million dollar reserve fund which had been previously approved by the residents.
School Lunch Overreach in NC
The national publicity given to the ridiculous school criticism of a child's lunch (which was prepared by her mother at home) and then replaced with cafeteria prepared chicken nuggets (yuk) merely highlights the intrusion into our private lives by the zealots in D.C.
Authorities at the Timothy Ranch on Middle Road, Riverhead is proposing a new charter school for Riverhead intended for high school students. This is the only charter school currently being proposed on Long Island and is in initial stages.
LEDs for Downtown
Sav-a-watt company has proposed the changing of all downtown street lights from traditional lighting to LED lights at, they say, a large saving in electric power. Being considered by the Board.
Downtown Sidewalks on the Agenda
The Town, using a grant from the DOT, will replace and repair all downtown sidewalks in 2013.
Theile Says Don't Split District.
South Fork Assemblyman Fred Theile (I-Sag Harbor) is urging that the redistricting commission not split the current east end districts. He would prefer that the North Fork Townships (Southold) remain with the current North Shore District and not be included with the South Fork district which he represents.
