New Rules on the Peconic
The Town Board is considering proposals to limit types of outboard engines on the Peconic River west of the falls at Grangebel Park.  Some board members are suggesting that engines be limited to 10 hp or just electric powered and others want to eliminate powered engines completely.  This would limit boating on the western portion of the Peconic to kayaking or rowing only. Some comments indicate that engine powered boats, no matter how small, tend to stir up the silt at the bottom and disturb the natural waterway.

A hearing on the matter will be held at Town Hall on June 5 at 2:15 pm.

Ball fields Nearing End
The Town has been seeking bids to complete the ball fields at EPCAL.  The Town has established a spending limit of $425,000 to finish the field and is accepting bids.  They will announce the winning bidder very soon as the Town is very interested in completing the ball fields sometime in June.

First Baptist Affordable
The Board has been working with a proposal from the First Baptist Church to construct the Community Life Center on Northbville Turnpike.  The center would consist of 75% affordable housing units and a recreational center.  First Baptist would have preferred 100% affordable.  The Town is struggling with issues such as maximum units per acre and maximum height of the structure.  Some on the Board would limit the number of units to 8 or 9 per acre.  First Baptist had proposed 12 per acre.  The Board also considered the height limit of 50 feet to be acceptable although current code has a 35 foot limit.  Very early stages but working.

Stony Brook Can Fuel Here
The Board approved the use of the Town's fueling facility by Stony Brook University Ambulances.  It presently allows the school district to fuel vehicles there as well.  Fueling by outside agencies currently earns the town about $40,000 a year, profits to be used for improvement of the facility.
