The Riverhead Public Library has opened the Yellow Barn The Barn, adjacent to the main library, offers thousands of used books for sale. Some are in excellent condition and others have seen better days but it offers an opportunity to pick up some books you may have missed or want to add to your book shelves. Open from 9 am to 2 pm every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the spring and summer.

Riverhead residents get a chance top get rid of old motor oil, half empty paint cans, chemicals, cleaners, degreasers, stains, transmission fluid, kerosene, brake fluid and more. Also accepting old electronic equipment, computers, receivers, speakers, keyboards and you name it.

Developers of a new, larger Walmart for construction on route 58 have once again begun the permit process. They have been stalled in the past by court actions which sought to obtain an injunction against the new store but are now moving ahead with their plans to replace the older and smaller store.
Riverhead residents will have an opportunity to vote on the Riverhead Central School District budget on May 15 at their local schools. The proposed budget for the 2011-2012 year is $111,773,597 representing a spending increase of 1.99% over the previous budget and a tax levy change of 1.73 %. The budget remains under the state mandated 2% cap increase limitation.
